The inaugural Well Plugging Summit, hosted by BCarbon, brought together a dynamic group of experts, practitioners, researchers, and market stakeholders focused on addressing methane emissions through high-integrity well plugging. Held at the Greater Houston Partnership, the event saw a strong turnout and a packed room over two full days of programming. The level of engagement and participation reflected the growing urgency—and opportunity—around tackling methane emissions through practical, durable solutions.

The program featured distinguished speakers from across the energy and carbon ecosystem. Ashe Menon of NOV delivered a keynote on sustainable manufacturing, while Daniel Romito of Opportune and Arva provided an overview of the voluntary carbon market. Eric Unverzagt spoke on “Land, Legacy, and Long-Term Stewardship,” highlighting the responsibility and long-term commitment embedded in methane mitigation efforts, and Guido Bertola outlined BCarbon’s approach to generating high-integrity carbon credits from well plugging projects.

Day two featured expert panels covering methane abatement research, project development, the buyer’s perspective, and community engagement and co-benefits. Leaders working across the carbon ecosystem shared practical insights on implementation challenges, regulatory considerations, market expectations, and the importance of transparency and scientific rigor. Just as impactful were the conversations between sessions—new partnerships formed, ideas exchanged, and collaborations initiated that will help move methane mitigation efforts forward.

As interest continues to grow in scalable climate solutions, the Well Plugging Summit demonstrated the value of convening technical experts, market participants, and community stakeholders in one room. By aligning operational excellence, credible carbon accounting, and long-term stewardship, BCarbon and its partners are helping shape a credible pathway for methane emissions elimination through well plugging.
